Overview of Systemic Therapy
Systemic psychotherapy offers trauma-sensitive support during challenging life situations such as crises, conflicts, or personal burdens. The focus is on reflecting on one’s situation, incorporating relationships, internal experiences, and available resources to develop new perspectives and solutions. The therapeutic process creates a protected space for self-awareness, stability, and trust, where work is done individually and at one’s own pace. The goal is to strengthen one’s self-competence, self-worth, and self-regulation ability. Various methods like conversations, body-oriented exercises, and creative approaches assist in recognizing and implementing new paths.
»I will face my fear. I will let it flood and wash over me. And when it has passed, I will turn around toto see the path of fear. Where fear has gone, there will be nothing. Only I will remain.« - Frank Herbert, Dune
Themes of Systemic Therapy
I accompany you in reflecting on your situation or your path in relation to your desires, possible obstacles, and available resources. The systemic approach of therapy invites you to consciously perceive the significance of relationships and personal companions in the different developmental phases of life, and to pay attention to the dynamic interactions between the respective life environments and personal inner experiences. This way, it may succeed in expanding a perhaps previously narrowed view with new perspectives, as well as exploring possible meaningful connections and previous patterns for a problem or specific behavior. ( Cf. Citation: Schlippe & Schweitzer 2016, S. 151ff. Schlippe, A. & Schweitzer, J. (2016). Lehrbuch Der Systemischen Therapie Und Beratung. Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht. )
Here, you are the focus. As a trained trauma educator, I first ensure the establishment of adequate safety, stability, and trust, to then, at your individual pace, approach your respective topics, questions, and challenges step by step together. ( Cf. Citation: Levine 2010, S. 102ff. Levine, P. (2010). Sprache Ohne Worte. Wie Unser Körper Trauma Verarbeitet Und Uns in Die Innere Balance Zurückführt. Kósel. )
In the combination of intensified access to one’s own perceptual world, growing (self-)confidence, and an expanded perspective on a problem from different sides, a good basis for more orientation in the jungle of possibilities can be gained, allowing one to calmly weigh options and develop encouraging ideas for the next steps towards more balance and joyful experiences. (Cf. ibid.)
Methods of Systemic Therapy (Au(choice):
- Therapeutic conversations combined with visualizations
- Systemic figure constellations
- Work with inner parts
- Body-oriented perception impulses
- Work with beliefs and creative methods of expression as needed and desired
- Inclusion of other related persons (e.g., partner) in the process is possible
The Process of Systemic Therapy
In the therapeutic conversation, there is space to remember, feel into emotions, and mindfully put them into words and pictures, as well as to reorganize connections around a personal issue. You receive with systemic body-oriented perception impulses a variety of options for self-empathy, self-clarification, and new perspectives. ( Citation: Wienands 2010, S. 38-56 Wienands, A. (2010). Die Wechselwirkung Von Körper Und Psyche Verstehen Und Nutzen. Hogrefe. )
The trial of new approaches and possible solution strategies in everyday life always remains in your hands. We reflect in the therapeutic process what works for youfeels appropriate at the moment and which internal attitudes, beliefs, and personal resources (e.g., abilities, skills, and relationships) will aid and support you on your path. At the center of the therapeutic process is the (re)experiencing of self-competence, self-worth, and the ability to assert oneself. ( See Citation: Schmidt 2004, S. 274ff. Schmidt, G. (2004).
